Controlled and divided by institutions that claim to protect us while really existing to preserve power, wealth, and obedience. From the king’s knights defending the crown to modern systems of policing, the pattern has remained the same: keep the powerful protected and the public in line. “Your friend and helper” means nothing when the system was never designed to truly serve the people. With real investment in social work, affordable housing, mental health care, education, and the decriminalisation of drugs, we could prevent much of the suffering and desperation that leads to crime in the first place instead of endlessly punishing its consequences.
